Hi, I’m Cody!
If you're taking the time to read my blog and follow my journey, it's only fair that you get to know about me! I'll give you a quick run-through of my life and then tell you about my hobbies, passions, and motives.
I grew up with frugality. From an early age, my parents instilled in me the value of saving. Up until age ten, my dad would match all contributions to my bank account. The $20 I received from grandma for my birthday just turned into $40 overnight! I was extremely fortunate to gain a fundamental understanding of saving and investing at such a young age.
The Middle Years
I picked up my first job at age ten working in the snack shack at my uncle's disc golf course. My wage was only $5 per hour, but my savings rate was nearly 100%! As I moved through my teenage years and worked various jobs, I managed to maintain a tremendous 95%+ savings rate.
In high school, I worked reasonably hard, although I definitely could have challenged myself more. I maintained a high GPA and ranked #6 in my class of 120 students. I passed several AP exams and received college credit for them. If I could turn back time, I would have taken nearly every AP and CLEP exam available to me. These exams can shave years off a college career and save thousands of dollars. If only I knew then what I know now.
Toward the end of high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I liked money though. This dilemma was quickly resolved when I Googled: "What majors earn the most money out of college?" and I chose to study Finance. What a great way to pick a major right?!
I chose to attend a State University mainly because of the cost. Fortunately, my scholarships and grants eliminated the need for student loans. I worked hard, networked a ton, and hunted for internship opportunities. During my junior year, I was actively pursuing investment banking roles in the NYC area. I received several offers from top-tier firms and I was finally ready to work 100-hour weeks and become rich! Then I discovered the financial independence movement and everything changed.
Chasing a Dream
I was first turned on to the financial independence movement through Tim Ferriss's book, The 4-Hour Workweek. I latched on to his philosophy like a leech and began to consume as many blogs, books, and podcasts on the subject as I could. I was supercharged with inspiration and knew I needed to take action. After two failed business ventures, I finally found success with my disc golf company, Arsenal Discs. My business partner James and I manufacture premium golf discs and accessories for the sport of disc golf. Who knew that you could have fun AND make money?
As you can probably tell, I'm extremely passionate about the pursuit of financial independence, self-fulfillment, and life optimization. I want to change the world for the better and make a lasting impact on society. My primarily channels for promoting financial independence are this blog Fly to FI and my podcast The FI Show.
I'm always looking to expand my reach, so please contact me with any ideas or suggestions. Thanks for reading about me!

I am intensely passionate about travel and am constantly craving adventure. Experiences are everything to me, and I am always eager to immerse myself in new cultures. I believe that understanding the world through travel is fundamental to achieving a more holistic life. The best part is, my travel is nearly FREE by implementing a technique called travel hacking.
I regularly challenge myself to obtain new skills and information. My philosophy is: Even if I fail miserably at something, I'm sure to have picked up a useful skill or two along the way. I'm willing to test my physical, mental, and financial boundaries in order to obtain my ideal lifestyle. Gaining new skills is fun too! You never know when previous experience might come in handy.
Working out is an essential part of my weekly routine. I am frequently pushing my body to new limits and experimenting with different diets and workout programs. I have run the gamut from hardcore powerlifting to intense cardio. Once you find a system that works for you, exercise is great for relieving stress and feeling accomplished. Having pride in your body supports confidence, happiness, and most importantly your health.
The key to a happy, successful life is genuine relationships. I am extremely fortunate to have a loving girlfriend, supportive family, and fantastic friends. Cultivating strong familial, personal, and professional relationships help to reinforce a sense of purpose and community. To make it even better, maintaining these relationships often leads to unexpected and amazing opportunities down the road!
Creating is one of the most satisfying pleasures in life. Whether it's writing a blog, designing a product, building a home, or even making a meal, it feels great to create! Entrepreneurship is a gateway that allows us to access our inner creativity while earning an income. My advice to anyone is to just do it! Follow your dreams, passion, and creativity. The business venture you didn't start will never be successful.
If you're reading this, you must have access to a computer. Lucky you! You're among the 45% of people on this earth with computer access. Yes, that's right. Less than half of the global population has access to a computer. Sometimes it's easy to forget how privileged we are. Volunteering is an awesome way to give back to the world and feel great doing it!
