What's Fly to FI All About?

Fly to FI was created as an outlet to share all of my best money management and life optimization strategies. After showing dozens of friends and family members how to invest with Vanguard or how to travel the world for free in separate one-on-one conversations, I decided to build a website.

Since, then the website has received over 100,000 page views and I’ve connected and collaborated with so many amazing folks within the personal finance community! This whole finance thing isn’t so bad — I promise! Once you get started and learn how to control your money, you’ll wonder why you didn’t get started sooner.

One of the biggest misconceptions about retirement is that your number is based on your income. And even though your income does matter, it’s actually your expenses that dictate how much money you need to retire.

Another common misconception is the idea that you have to accumulate a massive “nest egg” in your investment accounts. While this is surely a viable strategy, I’ve realized that the fastest way to financial independence is through the cash flow method. “Cash Flow FI”, as I like to call it, is when you earn enough passive/semi-passive monthly income from your assets (e.g. real estate, online businesses, etc.) to safely cover your monthly expenses.

If you think that financial independence isn’t possible for you in the next 5, 10, or 15 years — you’re wrong. Matter of fact, there’s a whole group of people called the FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) community who would most certainly agree with me.

These are people who have learned how to maximize the value of each dollar. They use frugality to craft and design their ideal life. They are able to save 50%+ of their income and rapidly increase their net worth. They understand how to optimize their time through automation and organization.

The FIRE community isn’t composed of a bunch of superheroes. It’s everyday people who make slightly different choices and strive to become 1% better each day. Everything single choice you make matters. It’s absolutely INSANE how much something seemingly insignificant like buying lunch at work affects your finances.

You don’t have to live like everyone else. You don’t have to keep up with the Joneses. Just understanding these concepts can help you to push back against lifestyle inflation and make more intentional financial decisions.

Even if you think the idea of financial independence is not for you, I urge to at least keep an open mind. Finances don’t have to be boring or difficult. You can experiment with creative ways to budget, gamifying your side hustles, or a ton of other awesome resources (There are some amazing apps that I’d recommend).

Whether you’re a male or female, earn $10,000 or $100,000, know nothing or everything about personal finance, there’s a place for you in the Fly to FI Community. Welcome and enjoy the ride!

Passions Beyond Finance

Fly to FI Travel

I am intensely passionate about travel and am constantly craving adventure. Experiences are everything to me, and I am always eager to immerse myself in new cultures. I believe that understanding the world through travel is fundamental to achieving a more holistic life. The best part is, my travel is nearly FREE by strategically utilizing travel rewards.

Fly to FI Fitness

Health- and fitness-related activities are vital to my weekly routine. What’s the point of accumulating wealth if you’re not healthy enough to enjoy it? The importance of health and fitness is a topic that is not covered nearly enough in the personal finance space. Our goal at Fly to FI is to help you optimize every single facet of your life — health and fitness included.

Impratical Jokers

The key to a happy, successful life is genuine relationships. I am extremely fortunate to have a supportive family and fantastic friends. Cultivating strong familial, personal, and professional relationships helps to reinforce a sense of purpose and community. You don’t have to make this journey alone (Yes, I met the Impractical Jokers).
